In Oregon it is illegal for boat operators (including paddlers) to operate a boat, or use water-skis, a sailboard, or a similar device, while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Alcohol is a factor in 30% of Oregon’s annual paddle fatalities.
Boaters in Oregon are considered to be under the influence if they have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level of 0.08% or higher.
Remember, if you’re in a raft, everyone holding a paddle is considered to be an operator.
